On December 30, 2017, a special report with the topic of “Made in China Initiative Changes Our Life” was made by Focus Report on CCTV 1 and CCTV Newsduring the large-scale national achievement exhibition themed“Exhibit on China’s Progress in the Past 5 Years”. The news show introduced theintegrated utility tunnel model designed byBeijing Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute (BMEDI), which, according to reliable source, has been collected as a permanent exhibit by the National Museum of China and will be showcased in the Road to Revival theme exhibition.
“In the past 5 years, we have been catching up with the world in terms of the number of integrated utility tunnel projects. Meanwhile, great development has been made inintegrated utility tunnel technologies, which serve as excellent carriers for the construction of smart cities. For instance, all pipelines within theintegrated utility tunnel can be monitored, helping us to build a smart municipal governance system”,saidYang Jingsheng, Deputy Chief Engineer of BMEDI, during his interview with CCTV.
In recent years, BMEDI has been closely following policies related to integrated utility tunnel projects. With multi-disciplinary comprehensive advantages, BMEDI has participated in the planning and design of more than 300 km of integrated utility tunnels by keeping track of market trends accurately. BMEDI joined China Utility Tunnel Industry Alliance as a vice-president organization, becoming a veritable “national team” in the field.
The model was directly transported by BMEDIto the exhibition under the authorization of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development, showingthe Ministry’s high-degree recognition of the institute. Through comparison with the traditional urban pipeline network, the model shows to visitors how the integrated utility tunnel transfuses blood to the lifeline of cities closely bound up with their daily life. It attracted numerous visitors, many of whom were interviewed by CCTV. BMEDI will keep contributing wisdom to the construction of integrated utility tunnels, which is a focus in future urban construction, and will be more devoted to urban construction in the new era.
